FAQ

Do you have a minimum order, and if so, what is it?

We do have a minimum order of one bundle or tray per variety and size you wish to order. Potted varieties are sold by the tray. The tray may contain 25 or 36 depending on the variety. The bareroot varieties are sold in bundles of 50 or 100. If you would like 1/8” or 3/16”, they are in bundles of 100; 1/4" or larger are in bundles of 50. Please note that we do not break bundles.

What is the difference between a seedling and a clonal rootstock?

Seedlings are grown from seeds, resulting in genetically diverse rootstock. This diversity can lead to variations in tree size, vigor, and adaptability. In contrast, clonal rootstocks are propagated through vegetative means, such as grafting or cutting, ensuring genetic uniformity. This uniformity allows for more precise control over tree characteristics like size, disease resistance, and fruit production. However, clonal rootstocks may be more susceptible to certain pests and diseases due to their genetic homogeneity. The choice between seedlings and clonal rootstocks depends on specific orchard goals and conditions.

I have an event scheduled.  Can you guarantee that my plants will arrive in time?

Weather is King in agriculture.  We are in the Pacific Northwest and our winters are typically milder than most areas of the country.  That means that we must wait for it to turn cold enough for the rootstock to go dormant before we can start digging, and every variety has their own particular dormancy requirements.  Some go dormant much earlier than others.  We also have to factor in the rain.  Harvest season is also the rainy season for us, which means that if the fields are too wet, even if the plants are ready, we are still unable to harvest.  Once the plants are harvested, they still need to be graded.  To ensure that we only ship quality rootstocks, all of our plants are graded and inspected by hand which takes time.  So while you may be ready to receive them immediately, we still may not be ready to ship them.

While we do our very best to ship your order to arrive when you need them, that is not always possible.  If you are ordering for classes or scion swaps, we recommend scheduling your event as late as possible to provide the best chance of receiving them on time.
