Stool Bed
A stool bed is just one of the growing methods used in tree propagation. It involves cutting a tree or shrub back to its base or “mother plant”, creating a “stool” of young, vigorous shoots. These shoots are then harvested and planted to grow new trees. Stool beds are often used for species that readily produce root sprouts or suckers, such as many fruit trees and some hardwoods. This method allows for the rapid multiplication of desired tree varieties, as the resulting shoots can be rooted and grown into mature trees, maintaining the genetic characteristics of the parent tree.
